Atwoli Urges Trump to Restore Sanity and Stability in America After Re-election Victory

Martin Olage Nov 07, 2024

The Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) in Kenya has expressed its congratulations to Donald Trump on his re-election as the 47th President of the United States.

COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli says that Kenyan workers have welcomed Trump's victory with warmth and hope and emphasizes the strong historical and strategic partnership between Kenya and the United States. Atwoli's statement not only recognizes Trump's electoral success but also celebrates the enduring relationship between the two nations. He expresses gratitude for the divine protection and guidance he believes has been bestowed upon Trump, particularly given the challenging global circumstances.

Atwoli characterizes Trump's win as a breath of fresh air, ushering in an era of renewed stability and principled leadership amidst what he described as an environment of "ungodly leaders with ungodly public policies." Furthermore, Atwoli calls upon President Trump to engage more directly with the American Federation of Labour and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), highlighting the importance of elevating the welfare and interests of American workers. Coinciding with Atwoli's remarks, the Kenyan Trade Principal Secretary Alfred K'Ombudo seeks to dispel any rumors suggesting that Trump's re-election would lead to the renegotiation or abandonment of various trade agreements between the US and Kenya.

K'Ombudo reaffirms the depth of the trade relationship, founded upon mutual principles of cooperation and development, positioning Kenya as a reliable partner in matters of trade and economic cooperation. Atwoli's message of congratulations is echoed by many Kenyan politicians, including President William Ruto who expresses optimism for future collaboration and a deepening of engagement on various fronts, such as trade, investment, and technology. Ruto emphasizes Kenya's readiness to collaborate on pressing global issues like peace, security, and sustainable development.

"As you embark on this phase of your journey of leadership, Kenya stands ready to further enhance our cooperation on matters of mutual interest including trade, investment, technology & innovation, peace and security, and sustainable development,” Ruto stated.
