Western Kenya Leaders Hold Nairobi Talks Ahead of 2027 Election
Western Kenya leaders from several political parties met in Nairobi on Wednesday, 20 May, to discuss regional cooperation ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna were joined by Vihiga Senator Godffrey Osotsi, Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga, Bumula MP Jack Wamboka, and Funyula MP Wilberforce Oundo. The meeting brought together politicians from different parties and factions, signalling possible efforts to strengthen political cooperation within the region.
Natembeya, who leads the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) within the United Opposition, described the discussions as focused on service and national interests. In a statement shared online, he said the leaders were “united by purpose, grounded in service, and committed to advancing the interests of our people not just for Western Kenya, but for Kenya at large”.
Sifuna, a leading figure in ODM’s Linda Mwananchi movement, also referred to the meeting in a social media post. He shared a photograph of the gathering with the caption “pole pole tu. Mbele iko sawa”, suggesting confidence in the direction of the talks.
The meeting was notable because Natembeya and Sifuna represent different political groupings. DAP-K is part of the broader opposition coalition, while Linda Mwananchi operates as a reform-focused wing within ODM. Their engagement indicated a willingness to explore cooperation across party lines.
Calls for political unity in Western Kenya have increased in recent years, with supporters arguing that a coordinated approach would improve the region’s influence in national politics. Sifuna has repeatedly urged leaders from the area to focus on shared interests rather than individual political ambitions.
