Kenyan DJ Jack Rooster Set to Open for Uncle Waffles in Milan
Kenyan Afro-House DJ and producer Jack Rooster will perform at Milan’s JustMe Club on 25 June, where he is scheduled to open for South African Amapiano star Uncle Waffles.
Rooster, widely regarded as one of the pioneers of Afro-House music in Kenya, built his reputation through the Caffè Mocha radio show on HBR 103.5 FM and the Deeper Sounds of Nairobi podcast. His debut album, Nyumba, released in 2019, blended Kenyan musical influences with international house sounds and helped establish his profile within the electronic music scene.
After relocating to Italy five years ago, Rooster steadily expanded his presence across Europe. He has performed at leading venues and shared stages with artists including Black Coffee, Shimza and Tyler ICU. The upcoming Milan show marks his first performance in the city and places him alongside one of the most sought-after names in Amapiano.
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Rooster described the event as a significant moment in his career.
“This is more than a gig. From the clubs of Nairobi to the rooftops of Rome and now Milan alongside Uncle Waffles, I can’t wait to share that Kenyan-Italian fire with the audience,” he said.
The announcement was welcomed by fans, many of whom remembered his early years on Homeboyz Radio. Social media users shared messages of support, with some reflecting on his journey from local radio presenter to international performer.
Rooster’s schedule continues to grow, with new residencies in Ibiza and Rome planned later this year. His appearance in Milan reflects the increasing international reach of Kenyan Afro-House music and the wider popularity of African electronic sounds.
Uncle Waffles remains one of the leading figures in the Amapiano genre, attracting audiences around the world. Her previous performance in Kenya was disrupted by organisational problems at the ASK Dome, where overcrowding and crowd-control challenges forced her to pause her set. Police later dispersed sections of the crowd using tear gas.
Organisers expect the Milan event to provide a well-managed experience for attendees. The performance will bring together two artists whose work highlights the range and influence of contemporary African music.
