Kenyan Man Reported Missing After Trip to Dubai's Jumeirah Beach

Martin Olage Jun 24, 2026

Two Kenyan families are mourning the deaths of their loved ones in Dubai, while another continues to search for a missing relative after he disappeared at Jumeirah Beach earlier this month.

Authorities and relatives are still searching for Mathew Kiprop Lagat, who was last seen at Jumeirah Beach on 13 June. His disappearance has caused growing concern among the Kenyan community in the United Arab Emirates, with friends and community members helping efforts to trace his movements.

Although reports have been filed with local authorities, no confirmed information about his whereabouts has emerged. His family in Nandi County remains without answers. A second tragedy occurred on 20 June when Malon Kiptarus, known to friends as “Skullcrusher”, drowned at the same beach.

Emergency responders were unable to save him. His death has deeply affected relatives and fellow Kenyans in Dubai. Tributes have been shared on social media, with many remembering him as a calm and kind young man. His family is now making arrangements to repatriate his body and prepare for his burial in Kapsabet.

The grief has been intensified by the death of another Kenyan worker in Dubai. Onesmus Karanja died while on duty under circumstances described as distressing. His family has appealed for financial assistance to help cover the costs of returning his body to Kenya, highlighting the significant expenses often involved in repatriation.

The incidents have prompted discussion within the Kenyan diaspora about safety, particularly during recreational activities such as swimming in unfamiliar locations. Some community members have also expressed concern about repeated reports of young Kenyans losing their lives while working abroad and have urged greater caution.
