Martin Olage Jul 05, 2026

The National Police Service has arrested four more suspects over the violent attack on a political convoy in Kisii County, bringing the total number of people in custody to seven.

The latest arrests were made by officers from Keumbu Police Station working with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kisii Central. The investigation follows the attack on Friday, 3 July, along the Kisii–Keroka Road in Keumbu.

Video footage of the incident circulated widely on social media shortly after the attack. Police made the first arrests soon afterwards and have continued to pursue those believed to have been involved.

Police have also summoned Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Jhanda to appear before the Kisii County DCI office as part of the investigation. Detectives are reviewing video evidence and following additional leads to identify everyone linked to the incident.

In a statement, the National Police Service condemned the attack and said political intolerance would not be tolerated. It said those responsible would be dealt with through the criminal justice system.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has directed the Internal Affairs Unit to carry out an independent assessment of the incident. The review will examine whether any shortcomings in the police response contributed to the violence.

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue to gather evidence and identify other suspects connected to the attack.
