Kenyan Family Seeks Answers After Relative Disappears in Russia

Martin Olage Jul 07, 2026

A Kenyan family is searching for answers after their relative, Robert Otieno Ngeso, disappeared in Russia.

They say they have not heard from him for an extended period and have received no official information about his whereabouts. Robert's relatives say repeated attempts to contact him through different channels have been unsuccessful.

Their concern has grown following unverified reports that he may have died in a conflict zone. According to an individual believed to be another Kenyan in the same area, Robert was reportedly shot on the battlefield.

However, no body has been recovered and the claim has not been independently confirmed. The source, who requested anonymity, said they feared repercussions if identified.

The family says the uncertainty has taken a heavy emotional toll. One relative said they were desperately trying to find Robert and continued to pray for his safety. They have appealed for reliable information that could help establish what happened to him.

The case also highlights concerns about Kenyan nationals who have travelled to conflict-affected areas in Russia under unclear circumstances. Monitoring groups estimate that about 291 Kenyans have been affected by what they describe as irregular military recruitment.

They report that 19 have died while another 32 remain missing. Both the Kenyan and Russian governments deny any official involvement in recruiting Kenyan citizens for military operations.

However, testimonies and reports on social media suggest that some individuals travelled to Russia under different arrangements before allegedly ending up in dangerous situations. Robert's disappearance reflects the uncertainty surrounding these alleged recruitment pathways.

Without official confirmation of his fate, his family remains uncertain about what has happened and continues to hope that he is still alive. The family says it will continue seeking verified information while waiting for authorities to provide an official update on Robert's whereabouts.
