DCI Boss Amin: Serving Cop Fatally Shot Dr Victoria Mutiso
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) says serving police officers are among those implicated in the fatal shooting of clinical psychologist Dr Victoria Mutiso, with one officer identified as the alleged gunman.
DCI Director Mohamed Amin said investigators reached the breakthrough after a multi-agency inquiry followed several leads and arrested suspects believed to have played logistical and operational roles in the killing. Among those in custody is a man accused of driving a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado used to block the taxi carrying Dr Mutiso on 29 July.
Another suspect is alleged to have transported the shooter to the scene on a motorcycle, which detectives have since recovered. Investigators say two Toyota Land Cruiser Prados were used in the operation, one to block the road and another to transport members of the team.
The investigation has also identified officers based in Kikuyu who are alleged to have supported the operation. Detectives say one officer acted as a link between the financiers and the execution team and supplied the firearm used in the shooting.
The weapon, a Mini Jericho pistol traced to Nderi Police Station, underwent ballistic testing that confirmed it fired the fatal shot. One officer has been arrested, while another remains at large. Amin said forensic evidence places the arrested officer at the scene.
The latest arrests bring the total number of suspects in custody to eight. They include Rose Mbithe Mulwa, her children Angela and Chris, and Nelson Masiga Makaralu, who had already been arrested. Detectives have also identified Daniel Njoroge as the alleged organiser of the attack and Faniel Mwangi as the alleged coordinator of its logistics.
Investigators say the evidence points to a planned operation involving financiers, organisers, drivers and those who carried out the shooting, with serving police officers allegedly involved. The investigation has also become the subject of political disagreement.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who now leads the Democracy for the Citizens Party, accused the DCI of trying to conceal police involvement in the killing. He said he had information about three officers linked to the case and threatened to release their identities if he believed investigators were covering up the facts.
Amin rejected the claims and described the remarks as reckless. He urged Gachagua to submit any evidence directly to investigators instead of making public statements. He also warned that comments about an active investigation could interfere with detectives' work.
The DCI says investigations are continuing and that all suspects, regardless of rank or position, will face the law.
