PS Omollo Calls for Calm at Elvis ‘Beast’ Otieno Burial

Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo has urged mourners in Kisumu County to maintain peace and unity during the burial of former student leader Elvis “Beast” Otieno.

Speaking during a visit to Otieno’s family, Omollo urged students and community members to ensure the funeral proceeded peacefully and to avoid actions that could add to the family’s grief. Relatives, friends and colleagues from the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) had gathered at the bereaved family’s home to pay their respects. 

Omollo’s visit followed the death of two TUM students in a road accident involving a bus travelling to Otieno’s funeral. Three other students remain in hospital, while most of those injured have since been discharged.

Omollo offered condolences to Otieno’s family, the university community and the families of the students who died in the accident. He also expressed hope that those still receiving treatment would make a full recovery.

He urged young people to remember Otieno for his commitment to education, youth leadership and community service. Omollo said Otieno’s dedication to his studies, peers and family was a legacy that should be upheld.

The burial brought together mourners grieving both Otieno and the students who died while travelling to pay their respects. Omollo called on those attending to treat the occasion with dignity, calm and respect.

Otieno’s funeral has therefore become a time of mourning for several families and the wider university community. Mourners have been urged to honour his memory by upholding the values of education, leadership and service that characterised his life.
