Kenya to Alaska: Inside Kim Musau’s Extraordinary Land Rover Expedition

Martin Olage Aug 11, 2026

Kenyan adventurer Kim Musau has driven his Nairobi-registered Land Rover, KAJ 655S, from Nova Scotia across Canada and into Alaska as part of a long-distance overland expedition.

Musau, who runs Alpha Land Rover, began the journey on Canada’s Atlantic coast in Nova Scotia before travelling west across the country. His route has taken him through forests, mountain regions and remote settlements, eventually reaching the Pacific coast and continuing north into Alaska.

The journey has placed KAJ 655S thousands of kilometres from Kenya, where its registration plates have become a distinctive feature of the expedition. Kenyans living in Canada have met Musau along the route, taking photographs with the vehicle and sharing in the significance of seeing a Kenyan-registered Land Rover so far from home.

The expedition has also received recognition from Kenya’s diplomatic representatives in Ottawa. Through Alpha Land Rover, Musau has documented the expedition online, sharing photographs and updates from across North America. The images show KAJ 655S travelling through changing landscapes, from Canada’s Atlantic coast to the Pacific and into Alaska.

The Alaskan section builds on Musau’s previous long-distance expedition. In 2023, he completed a solo drive from Nairobi to North Cape in Norway, covering nearly 30,000 kilometres and travelling through 37 countries.

That journey involved visa and border-crossing challenges as well as severe weather. It also demonstrated the Land Rover’s ability to withstand demanding conditions and established it as a dependable vehicle for Musau’s expeditions.

The journey through Alaska presents another test, with its vast wilderness and remote roads providing challenging conditions for overland travel. KAJ 655S has continued to carry the Kenyan flag as Musau travels from Nova Scotia through Canada and into the Alaskan frontier.
