Kenya’s New UK Deputy Envoy Irene Maswan Makes First Public Appearance
Kenya’s newly appointed Deputy High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Irene Maswan, made her first public appearance in the role at the launch of Kalenjin Gaa Nenyon UK 2026 in Bristol.
The event, held at the Kip Keino Athletics Stadium, brought together members of the Kalenjin community and other distinguished guests to celebrate their heritage, identity and unity. The attendance of Dr Kipchoge Keino, one of Kenya’s most respected sporting figures, added significance to the occasion and highlighted the links between sport, community and national identity.
For Ambassador Maswan, the Bristol event marked her first major public engagement since taking up her post. Her participation reflected Kenya’s focus on strengthening relations with its diaspora as part of its foreign policy. By engaging directly with community initiatives, she also signalled the mission’s intention to work with Kenyan communities in the UK to support cultural identity and community development.
The Kalenjin Gaa Nenyon UK 2026 initiative aims to preserve Kalenjin traditions, language and values for future generations. The choice of the Kip Keino Athletics Stadium added another layer of significance to the event. Holding the launch at the venue connected the community’s cultural aspirations with a wider history of sporting achievement and international engagement.
