Kenya Launches Campaign to Promote Skilled Workforce to Global Employers

As global competition for skilled labor intensifies, Kenya is actively positioning its workforce as a strategic asset for international companies.

A new initiative, spearheaded by the Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs, aims to connect Kenyan professionals with opportunities on the global stage. The "Why Hire a Kenyan" campaign, launched in conjunction with the Kazi Majuu recruitment drive at Meru National Polytechnic, emphasizes Kenya's pool of educated, tech-proficient, and young workers. Principal Secretary Roseline K. Njogu highlights the country's dedication to providing skilled professionals to meet international demand.

Kenya faces significant unemployment among its skilled youth, but the government is attempting to address this issue through targeted programs. Initiatives such as KaziKwaGround, KaziMajuu, and KaziMtandaoni are designed to reduce unemployment by creating employment opportunities and fostering international partnerships. Kenya's workforce has a strong foundation in education, producing numerous graduates in STEM fields annually.

The country's historical ties to the British education system also ensure widespread English proficiency, facilitating international communication and collaboration. The demographic profile of Kenya also presents a unique advantage. Over 75% of the population is under the age of 35, resulting in a dynamic and adaptable workforce suited to the demands of a fast-paced global economy. This youthful energy, combined with the cultural diversity inherent in Kenya's ethnic makeup, fosters cultural sensitivity and adaptability among its professionals.

Often referred to as the "Silicon Savannah," Kenya is becoming a hub for technological innovation in Africa. A large segment of the workforce is digitally fluent, capable of driving technological advancement within international organizations.
