Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has announced that identity cards, passports, birth and death certificates will be issued on the same day of application starting July 1st, 2020.
CS Mating’i, who spoke in Mombasa on Wednesday, said the aforementioned documents will be processed within hours at the Immigration headquarters in Nairobi but applications originating from outside the capital and abroad will take a few days.
“We interact with our citizens at their most vulnerable moments and the pain and misery I saw them go through last year is unacceptable in Public Service,” stated Matiang’i.
“We cannot be expected to be the provider of solutions yet be deemed to be the greatest source of pain. This must and shall stop! Change in our processes, procedures, and attitude cannot be overemphasized.”
At the same time, CS Matiang’i directed the Principal Secretary in charge of Citizen Services to ensure strict and uncompromised adherence to the Service Charters of government departments. He also directed all County Commissioners to make impromptu checks at service centers and take tough actions on a lack of efficient service delivery.
“I shall hold the County Commissioners responsible for, in particular, immigration services, registration of persons and issuance of birth and death certificates in their counties,” he warned.

If Matiangi became President be assured that "The office if President will have Kisii employees from Sweepers, Office messengers, Clerks, all the way to the top. Just like Ongwaye did when he Worked in the Ministry of Education.
Matiang'i needs to look at that website that frustrate diasporans when applying for passport. You do not need to use Kenya phone number to register. Why get a Kenya phone number for one time use? Second, Mating'i needs to know Kenya in USA are being charged $50 for the Id. Id should be free of charge. period.
Nonsense, whichever country you are did you get Id for free,be honest even in ca usa,It'd cost you $35.
To matiang'i,be realistic, one day process only will result with lots of mistakes, in ca. USA passport takes about 2 weeks.what Daispor would want to see especially in usa,is many offices in every state,for example if you live in California you've to travel to DC for your picture and fingerprints, that's a 6hr on plane, worth $600,plus hotel,uber etc. Let's use our brains mr matiang'i.
Processed and ISSUED on the Day of Application? Wow! I hope the same Day will be Ample time for Insuring "strict and uncompromised adhrence to the Service Charters of government departments" with No room for Mistakes nor Bribery.

Government official of the year. This man is a true public servant. Someone who does what the taxpayers are paying him to do. While all other public employees are lining up their pockets with stolen taxpayers money, Matiang'i is performing. No one come close to what this guy does. More power to you.
And I have been waiting for my passport for one month now and yet on their website passport renewal would take 5 days. Looking for this great day when i don't have to visit immigration office 10 times

This is so sad as I applied my passport in September and upto NOW, NO passport yet, how will it be magical one day??? Good trial but hope the immigration dept, wake up and do their jobs right as directed. You need fire old folks and hire young thugs to get job done

Why do I have to encourage corruption? That is something that doesn't go well with me to see people intentionally hold other hostage for their constitutional rights. This chai people forgets things change and the chai can become dry and life goes on a spiral...but who knows. You crave for chai in you department you visit mine I will expect gold and there goes the spiral. Do to others what you would like done to you. Unfortunately we are human..Greed is beyond humanity.
We applied for IDs at Kenyan Embassy in DC in June 2019. We have not received them. When we call, rarely is the phone answered. When they answer they just tell us to wait. Somebody help please!!
