Presidential candidates Cyrus Jirongo (United Democratic Party) and Joseph Nyagah (Independent), have accepted defeat in the Tuesday's presidential contest.
The two, in a joint statement on Friday, thanked their supporters and Kenyans for participating in a peaceful election, saying that by doing so, they demonsted maturity and love for the country.
“It is obvious that the IEBC faced a number of challenges after the voting was over. We hope that the team will use these challenges as a learning process,” Nyagah and Jirongo who had garnered 37,791 and 11,240 votes respectively said.
“We strongly believe that for our country to develop, peace must prevail. We therefore concede defeat and accept the will of the people,” they added.
They called on President Uhuru to unite the country when he forms a new government.
Jirongo and Nyagah join Thirdway Alliance’s Ekuru Aukot and Japheth Kaluyu in conceding defeat as electoral commission prepares to declare the winner.
