The American embassy in Kenya has announced the closure of its Resource Center following the United States government shutdown.
In a statement on Monday, the US embassy said the resource center will remain closed until further notice.
"In accordance with instruction from Washington, the American Resource Center at the US Embassy in Nairobi is closed until further notice. We appreciate your understanding," the notice reads.
The center, which is located at the embassy's Gigiri complex in Nairobi, helps anyone seeking to get any information about the United States and exploring online resources without charges.
It is mostly used by students, teachers, researchers, journalists, business professionals, and any other individuals seeking information.
One can become a member of the Center by filling an online membership form for free. Services include free internet, eLibraryUSA, eGranary, 4000 books, US magazines, videos and audio books.
The US government closed at the stroke of midnight on Friday after congressional republicans and democrats as well the the White House failed to agree on a budget deal. Congress is still negotiating to break the impasse and re-open the government.
