Eight Kenyan Police Officers Killed in Wajir IED Attack

Eight Kenyan police officers were killed after a vehicle they were traveling in ran over an improvised explosive device (IED) on Friday evening.

The incident reportedly occurred between Khoros-Harar and Konton in Wajir County.

Reports indicate that the security officers were carrying out routine surveillance along the Kenya-Somalia border when the incident happened.

The IED is believed to have been planted on the road by Al-Shabaab militants.

The land cruiser vehicle is reported to have been carrying 13 officers, eight of whom died on the spot.

Two other officers are said to have sustained injuries while three are missing, with reports indicating they may have been abducted by assailants.

Police headquarters in Nairobi is yet to make an official statement or comment regarding the 4 pm incident.
