Controller of Budget Margaret Nyakang'o claims she was coerced to sign out Sh15 billion days to the August 9th, 2022, general election.
Appearing before the Parliamentary Public Petitions Committee on Tuesday, Nyakang’o said she was threatened to approve Sh6 billion for buying Telcos and Sh9.5 billion from the annuity fund.
She went on to produce alleged conversations between her and former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani.
The committee heard that at 2.13 pm on August 4th, 2022, Yatani wrote to Nyakang'o saying “Good Afternoon, please also facilitate similar approvals for infrastructure ministry for amounts Sh8 billion and Sh2 billion.” At 3.33 pm, Yatani sent a photo to Nyakang’o and wrote “Please help us expedite this.”
A minute later, he sent an email reading, “H.E might even call you if we don’t deal with this by 4 pm. Nyakang’o replied by asking “Are you saying we have 26 minutes to complete the process?”
In response, Yatani allegedly wrote: “He’s just called and I assured that I have spoken to you and that you promised by the end of the day.”
Yatani sent another message at 3.37 pm, saying: “I know he will call you again. He persuaded some guys to resume work and promised that their bill be settled by today.” Nyakang’o answered: “The timing requires up to tomorrow as I am still out of office.”
At 3.39 pm, CS Yatani reportedly told the budget controller: “You need to devise how to deal with it. I am sorry but try.”
Asked why she did not reject requests to approve the funds, Nyakang’o told the committee that it was “not a black-and-white, yes-and-no” situation.
“There are very many things that we have to weigh before you arrive at that decision. But what I am saying is that there are loopholes that need to be assessed and my office needs to be protected,” she said.

If this is true, Kenya is done! No one will trust anyone anymore, investors will close shop, no wonder we are called shi*hole countries! Africans are so good at fckng their countries!
@Njeri who are WE?I am and African but it does not mean I fuck my country because the lady did a mistake or Azimio owners looted.
And people are taking it as a joke that the previous regime literally cleaned out public coffers like there was no tomorrow. What a shame? The parties involved need to be shamed, and, the funds returned then jailed. Why take this serious crime that lightly wananchi?
Raila and Uhuru must produce all the maize they bought from the farmers using the looted billions. They are holding it to course artificial shortage. It is surprising that these nyang’aus were and are still sharing the loot while their hungry ndongomothi/dump supporters are singing war songs and threatening other Kenyans.
From her own testimony, she need to resign. All those involved need to refund the money. A DCI investigation would be in order.
Rigathi was right.
Problem of women at the top. They can't stand the heat. CJ facing same thing
Good governance knows male or female.Much like corruption. My monthly FEMME FATALe segment highlights the Evils women do that used to be a preserve for men.
What we need @ Simamaimara is men and women or integrity and ethics in positions of power, and leadership. I will give you that, that this woman was gutless, and a coward. Those are not qualities of a leader. There are many men who are as coward ,and spineless as she is.
We pride ourselves in APING the west, but apparently this is only acceptable when we are aping bad behavior-like their names, culture, language, religion, serial marriages, gun slighing...etc.
Just about all "crooks" caught in malfeacence, or embarassing scandals in USA usually step down before the media descends on them. This is what should be happening in Kenya.
How many of our so called leaders have active cases in courts about their corrupt acts, and misuse of public funds and yet are still running the government in some capacity?
The only way forward, and to clean this mess is to elect men and women of integrity. It's that simple.

@ SimamaImara:
It is wrong for you to expose your bias against women. Please, don't forget that half of you is a woman. You inherited half of what makes you be who you are today from your mother. This is the lady who gave you life after faithfully carrying you in her womb for nine months.
Did you know that, according to WHO, over 800 women die everyday in the process of giving birth?
Please have the courage to write what is right first, by apologizing to all the women of the world for your irrational and negative sexist remarks about women.
Just speaking my mind. Adam and Eve, everyone has their role. There's strong women evidently who even defeated men: queen Amanirenas beat ceaser in war in Nubia. A one eyed queen. Many women MPs like Chelagat Mutai, Grace Onyango etc. Many queens in old days. In the last days transhumans will beat men like crazy. Not all pp grown and develop equal
Well said @ Imara (Mpya ) Daima. I dont know how many of us especially men ever stop to think that each pair of genes a person inherits one comes from dad,and the other from mom,and both form your make up.
If nature were let alone to run our lives,or its course, there would be no battle of the sexes as we know it today. We were designed to complement each other.Obviously there are some outliers here and there, but those do not define humanity,or the natural trend. The natural trend of things is to work together, both men and women, and each utilizing the best traits, attributes, and talents in them.
Feminism and chauvinism, much like racism, and bigotry are byproducts of fear. Thanks to my religion SCIENCE.It has helped mankind to dispel some of these fears. But as we known, habits, and traditions are diehard. So the battle continues.Open your minds folks, and fear not ;to replace the bad with the good based on SCIENCE,and common sense.
@ Maxiley:
Excellent.
Shenzi sana Simama imara! Don’t ‘paint’ all women with broad brush because of one scared brat! Nyang’au hii.
If Kenya only curbed corruption and thefts, we won't need Dorner's money.
Jomo told cooks to taste for salt, but the cooks are eating the cook pots.
Forget about ODM or UDA or any other political parties in Kenya. We must stand together in order to rescue and save our nation from immediate oblivion.
Kenya does not belong to any political party! It belongs to all Kenyans. We need to take a solemn oath to protect and defend our nation as patriotic Kenyans. This is important if we are serious about rescuing our nation from all the current and past marauding hyenas present in all our current and past political parties.
She is as guilty as the rest of the thieves!!! Should have threatened to resign and let the public know about it through various channels!
