A soldier died yesterday while undergoing treatment after he was struck in the head by a stone during an altercation outside a bar in the Mirema area of Kasarani, Nairobi.
The tragic incident involved Senior Private Kelvin Ndung'u of Moi Airbase. On the night of August 31, Ndung'u was fatally injured during an altercation outside a bar in Nairobi. The situation, which began inside the establishment, escalated outdoors where Ndung'u was struck on the head with a stone by one of his companions, rendering him unconscious in a nearby trench. Local bodaboda riders discovered Ndung'u's unconscious form and promptly alerted law enforcement.
Police swiftly transported him to Jesse Kay Hospital on Lumumba Drive. Upon identifying Ndung'u as a member of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), he was transferred to the Defence Memorial Hospital for specialized care. Despite medical efforts, Ndung'u succumbed to his injuries on September 3, three days after the incident. Police have initiated a murder investigation in response to this tragedy. A team has also been dispatched to collect evidence from the scene and interview witnesses, including club staff.
Authorities are also examining security camera footage from the area to identify and apprehend the assailants. While no arrests have been made thus far, investigators are pursuing promising leads. In a separate but equally concerning incident, Nyahururu police are investigating the mysterious death of a woman approximately 40 years old. Her body was discovered in her bed without visible injuries and has been transferred to the Nyahururu County Referral Hospital mortuary for autopsy and further investigation.
Another tragic incident unfolded at the University of Nairobi when Collins Kiprop Kosgei, a 29-year-old fifth-year medical student, was discovered deceased in what authorities suspect to be a case of suicide. The young man's body was found in the main hall residence, his head covered with a nylon bag containing a small gas cylinder secured around his neck. While no suicide note was recovered, this event has prompted a police investigation led by Kilimani police boss Ben Kobia.
