Ruto Cites Bible to Justify Alliance with Raila in Narok Address

President William Ruto, addressing congregants during an Easter Sunday service in Ntulele, Narok County, used the occasion to advocate for national unity and reinforce his administration's commitment to combating corruption and improving healthcare access. 

The President's speech blended spiritual appeals with policy directives, emphasising collaboration and accountability across various sectors. President Ruto addressed the controversy surrounding his alliance with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, asserting that their unity is divinely inspired and essential for the country's progress. He rebuffed criticism of their partnership, framing it as a necessary step toward achieving national cohesion. 

"The unity we are advocating in Kenya is divinely inspired. It is God’s will," he declared, suggesting that those who oppose this unity are acting against the nation's best interests.

The President urged Parliament to reconsider the Conflict of Interest Bill, which he returned due to perceived inadequacies in addressing corruption among public officials. He has set a three-week deadline for Parliament to deliberate on his recommendations, emphasising the need for robust legislation to prevent public servants from exploiting their positions for personal gain. 

"I appeal to Parliament, both the National Assembly and the Senate, to revisit my recommendations. The Bill must be robust enough to prevent public servants from exploiting their positions for personal gain," he stated.

President Ruto highlighted the recent rollout of the e-procurement system as a significant step toward enhancing governance and fiscal transparency. The digital system aims to ensure competitive pricing and accountability in public procurement processes, eliminating inefficiencies and malpractices. Addressing the management of road development funds, President Ruto advocated for a centralised approach to optimise resources and maximise impact. 

He urged lawmakers and county leaders to collaborate with the national government to advance national infrastructure goals. The President believes that a unified effort will lead to more efficient and effective development of the nation's infrastructure. President Ruto made a compelling case for universal healthcare coverage, urging Kenyans to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA). He emphasised that the SHA is pivotal in ensuring that no citizen is forced into poverty due to medical expenses. 

Narok Governor Patrick ole Ntutu echoed the President's sentiments, stating that local leaders would no longer participate in fundraising efforts for residents who refuse to enrol in SHA. He emphasised the importance of supporting the program, citing instances where patients in the county have already benefited from significant payouts through the scheme. President Ruto’s address comes at a critical juncture as Kenya seeks to consolidate its political stability and economic growth. 

The collaboration between President Ruto and Raila Odinga, despite initial opposition, has become a focal point of national discourse. The President's emphasis on unity, coupled with his administration's anti-corruption measures, reflects a broader agenda to create a more inclusive and accountable society.
