How You Can Pay for SHA Lipa Pole Pole Scheme Using Hustler Fund

The Kenyan government has initiated a program enabling citizens to utilise the Hustler Fund microloan program to cover their Social Health Authority (SHA) premiums.

Effective immediately, this integration allows individuals, particularly those in the informal sector, to finance their health insurance contributions through the government-backed loan initiative. Citizens can now access the "Lipa Pole Pole" (Pay Little by Little) instalment plan for SHA premiums via USSD codes *254# and *147#. This system provides users with information on their outstanding annual contributions, with the option to select the Hustler Fund as their financier.

Loan eligibility is contingent upon a clear repayment history with the Hustler Fund.

Upon selecting the Hustler Fund, users can choose a repayment schedule tailored to their financial circumstances, daily, weekly, or monthly. Following confirmation, the SHA premium is settled immediately, and loan repayments commence under the agreed terms. The initiative requires users to have updated SHA records prior to accessing the service.

The Lipa Pole Pole scheme was officially launched by President William Ruto during the Madaraka Day celebrations in Homa Bay. This initiative aims to create a more manageable health insurance payment structure for Kenyans, aligning with the government's broader objective of increasing social security coverage for the informal workforce, who often face challenges with upfront premium costs.

The collaborative effort involves the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Cooperatives and MSMEs, mobile network operators, and financial institutions.

Leveraging the Hustler Fund, the government intends to enhance financial accessibility to essential services, bolstering its social welfare policies.

Despite the advancement, challenges remain concerning system integration between the Hustler Fund and SHA, which operate under separate data frameworks. The technical details of this coordination are still being refined, with the government expected to further streamline the process to ensure seamless transactions.
