Raila Sends Kasmuel to Represent ODM at European Parliament

Kasmuel McOure, leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Youth League, has arrived in Brussels for a diplomatic mission involving engagements with the European Parliament and other key institutions.

The visit is part of ODM’s broader efforts to strengthen international partnerships and expose its emerging leaders to global governance models. It is facilitated by the European Union Delegation to Kenya and endorsed by ODM party leader Raila Odinga.

In a statement published on his official X account on Sunday, 14 September, McOure expressed appreciation for the opportunity, describing it as a continuation of the party’s commitment to global dialogue.

“This opportunity comes courtesy of the European Union in Kenya and H.E. Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, who has always reminded us that excellence must be pursued relentlessly and without excuse,” he wrote.

During his time in Brussels, McOure is expected to meet with European policymakers and institutional representatives to learn from best practices in governance, civic engagement, and party development. The visit highlights a growing trend among Kenyan political figures to engage with international institutions and incorporate global perspectives into national discourse.

This engagement follows McOure’s recent participation in the 2025 Mandela Washington Fellowship (MWF), a flagship programme of the United States government aimed at empowering young African leaders. From June to July, he joined 40 Kenyan fellows in a six-week academic and leadership programme hosted across 26 American universities.

The Kenyan cohort forms part of a group of 650 participants selected from across Africa for their professional achievements and community leadership. The MWF programme includes three focus tracks: business leadership, civic leadership, and public management.

It offers participants intensive training, mentorship, and networking opportunities. According to the US Embassy in Nairobi, the 2025 cohort reflects Kenya’s broad talent pool, with fellows drawn from regions across the country and working in sectors ranging from media and science to entrepreneurship.
