Police arrested controversial blogger Robert Alai on Friday morning and detained him at Kamkunji police station.
The blogger divulged that police officers ordered him out of his car at gunpoint and forced him into another vehicle before being taken to Kamkunji Police Station.
"They blocked the road and ordered me out at gun point. I was then bundled into another car and driven to Kamkunji police station where I am since 10 am on Friday," Alai posted on his Facebook page.
An officer in Special Crime unit confirmed they arrested Alai over a ‘sensitive story’ he had written on his popular blog, Kahawatungu.
The officer who sought anonymity said a senior member of the "society" had complained over a story Alai wrote recently.
Alai was arrested at 9am left Nairobi to attend the burial of slain IEBC ICT manager Chris Msando in Siaya county. Alai, who is the chairman of Nyayo Estate Residents Association, where Msando resided with his family was supposed to make a speech at the funeral in Lifunga village on behalf of the estate residents.
Alai said he was not informed why he was arrested. Bloggers took to the internet calling for his release under hashtag #freealai.
Sources said he was arrested in connection to a story he published on his blog and leaked photos of members of the Kenyatta family in a Nairobi hospital.
In the story, Alai posted photos of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s mother, Mama Ngina Kenyatta, and uncle, George Muhoho, in a sombre mood at the hospital late at night, claiming a member of the family had passed on.
Alai has since pulled down the story.
So where did the photos come from, photoshop?
