ODM Proposes Junet Mohamed for Interior Cabinet Secretary Position

Nyaribari Masaba MP Daniel Manduku has announced that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party is proposing National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed as a potential replacement for Kithure Kindiki as Interior Cabinet Secretary.

The announcement came during a panel discussion on K24 television, where Manduku appeared alongside Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang'wa. The proposal emerges as Kindiki is expected to vacate the Interior Ministry position following his recent approval by the National Assembly as the next Deputy President. When questioned about ODM's increased cabinet representation aspirations, Manduku confirms Mohamed's nomination while emphasizing that the final decision remains with President William Ruto.

"Yes, we have fronted a name, Junet Mohamed. We have just fronted the name, but it is up to the president to decide," Manduku stated during the broadcast.

He also suggests that Kindiki may have already submitted his resignation to President Ruto, noting that such matters often remain private. The National Assembly's recent approval of Kindiki's nomination as Deputy President marked a significant step in the process, with 236 MPs voting in favour of his appointment. Speaker Moses Wetangula announced the unanimous decision, stating, "The vote is overwhelming yes," with no opposing votes or abstentions recorded.

If appointed, Mohamed would join an expanding list of ODM officials serving in President Ruto's administration, including Hassan Joho in Mining, Opiyo Wandayi in Energy, John Mbadi in Treasury, and Wycliffe Oparanya in Cooperatives and MSMEs Development. This potential appointment would further strengthen ODM's presence in the cabinet further reflecting the party's growing collaboration with the current administration.

ODM support for President Ruto's policies and agenda has since resulted in significant appointments for party members. This alignment has proven beneficial for both parties, with ODM gaining influential positions while supporting the government's initiatives.

Mohamed, who currently serves as both the National Assembly Minority Leader and Suna East MP, would bring considerable political experience to the Interior Ministry if appointed.
