Laikipia Woman Representative Catherine Waruguru has picked a fight with the County's First Lady over what she termed as interfering with her work.
Speaking in Nyahururu town, Waruguru asked Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi's wife, Maria Mbeneka, to concentrate on her "domestic chores."
Waruguru, who does not shy away from controversy, said Mrs Nderitu should know that Laikipia residents did not elect her, and that she should take her rightful place - the Kitchen.
“We elected the governor and not the first lady. She should concentrate on her kitchen and other domestic chores,” she said.
This came after Ms Mbeneka reportedly ordered a sanitary towels distributing function be called off since she was held up.
“Laikipia people elected Ndiritu Muriithi as governor and I will not take instructions from the governor’s wife,” the first-term MP added.
Waruguru also urged Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) to investigate whether the cash allocated to Mbeneka's office by the Governor was done so procedurally.
“The County Assembly must scrutinise the office of the first lady to see if the money she is spending has been allocated through the budgetary allocation because that is public money and we must know where it is coming from,” she continued.
In a statement through the Director of Communications Muchiri Gitonga, Mrs Nderitu said she is not interested in fighting with the Woman Representative.
“The governor’s wife is a busy person you would like to bring into a fight with a Woman Rep who has a penchant for picking fights with anybody, anywhere any time.”
