Police Guard PLO Lumumba's Rural Home in Siaya after Destruction Threats for Defending IEBC in Presidential Petition

More police officers have been deployed to guard lawyer PLO Lumumba's rural home in Siaya County after unknown individuals threatened to burn down his house and kill his employees.

Bondo OCPD Paul Kiarie said police officers have been stationed at the homestead in Usigu division, Bondo sub-county, while investigations into the alleged threat continue.

Kiarie further revealed that police had received intelligence reports indicating that there were plans to attack and destroy property at the home because of Lumumba’s submissions during the hearing of the presidential petition at the Supreme Court earlier this week.

Lumumba, representing IEBC in the case, has been branded a traitor by some Raila Odinga and National Super Alliance (NASA) supporters and was heavily trolled on social media platforms for poking holes on the former Prime Minister's petition at the Supreme Court.

One of the workers at Lumumba's home said that unknown individuals hurled stones into the compound of the lawyer on Monday night moments after he made his submissions at the court.

In his submissions, Lumumba said Raila Odinga's petition was “dead on arrival” and asked the Supreme Court to dismiss it.

The worker also said that close friends living within the locality had called to inform him of an alleged plan by some youths to raze the home down if the Supreme Court upholds President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election.

Supreme Court judges will deliver a verdict on the petition on Friday.
