NASA Announces Suspension of People's Assembly Process

National Super Alliance (Nasa) has announced it has suspended the People’s Assembly process following last Friday unity pact between President Kenyatta and Opposition supremo Raila Odinga.

Speaking during a media briefing in Nairobi on Monday, People’s Assembly steering committee chairperson David Ndii, said the decision to suspend the operations of the body was informed by need to give the country an opportunity to unify.

Ndii commended President Kenyatta and Odinga for recognising that the country was facing a unity crisis, hence the need to initiate the process of national healing.

“We commend and congratulate the two leaders for this meeting of minds because we have not had leaders in the past come to this meeting of minds and tell the nation that this (tribalism) is a fundamental problem we have in this nation,” he said.

He added: “The two leaders have asked us to give them an opportunity to spearhead this process and we have accepted. We are therefore in this spirit suspending the people’s assembly process.”

Ndii was flanked by other People's Assembly committee members Judy Sijeny, Hamida Kibwana, Dr. Mutakha Kangu, Dr. Oduor Ong’wen, Koitamet Olekina and Peter Mathuki.
