Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has stood by his decision to pick self-declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) general Miguna Miguna as county's Deputy Governor.

Speaking when he attended a service at A.I.P.C.A Church in Njiru Ward, Nairobi County on Sunday, Sonko said Miguna remains his number one choice for the post.

"I have chosen Miguna as my deputy and it is the assembly which will decide," Governor Sonko said.

The position feel vacant after the resignation of Polycarp Igathe in January. Sonko further assured Nairobi residents that he is committed to transforming the city as promised during campaigns.

"I will not give room to those who want to derail my vision. My focus is service delivery to Nairobians," he said.

Sonko returned to Nairobi on Sunday after temporarily operating from his rural home in Mua Hills, Machakos for the past one week for fear of his life. Sonko fled to Machakos after the government reduced his bodyguards.

Speaking at the Church, the Governor said his life is still in danger, but asked Nairobi residents to protect him.

“When Raila Amolo Odinga’s security personnel was withdrawn, did his life continue or not? Those other NASA leaders who had their security withdrawn, did their lives continue or not?” posed Governor Sonko.

“Even in Nairobi County, life with citizens will continue. I believe the citizens are enough security. I do not need that police security anymore.”
