Detectives Arrest Four Members of a Gang that Steals from Kenyan Bank Customers
Four suspects believed to be part of a gang that trails people exiting banks before stealing from them have been arrested on Thursday.
The four are identified as Josephine Wambui Kariuki,47, Peter Karigo Muchai, 40, Patrick Ndung’u Kinuthia, 29 and 28-year-old Hadija Karimi,
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) says the four have been arrested in Kajiado County and has urged those who might have been robbed by the suspects to file a report at the nearest police station.
“A gang of four that has been waylaying people coming from banks and robbing them of their hard earned cash and other valuables were early today arrested in Kajiado County. Look at them keenly. If you’re a victim, kindly make a report at your nearest Police Station or @DCI_Kenya HQs,” DCI says in a tweet.
In another incident, detectives from the DCI have shot dead one suspected robber during a fire exchange in Nairobi's Kayole estate.
The DCI says the shooting happened after officers acting on a tip-off ambushed two suspects stealing from members of the public. One pistol and a round of ammunition was recovered.
"Detectives working on info, today afternoon approached a gang of 2armed men robbing members of the public in Kayole. They challenged them to stop & surrender but instead they fired at the officers. Detectives returned fire & fatally injured 1 gangster. A Pistol & 1 round Recovered."
"The other gangsters escaped but is being sought by detectives to face the full wrath of the law," DCI notes.
