Policeman Shoots 22-Year-Old Girlfriend 6 Times After Quarrel
A police officer attached to Kabachi Police Post in Meru County has been arrested for shooting his girlfriend six times.
Constable David Nyamweya is said to have shot Everlyn Njoki outside Laare Police Station canteen on Saturday night following a brief quarrel.
The 22-year-old woman who sustained serious gunshot wounds in the stomach and legs is presently fighting for her life at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) in Nairobi.
Were it not for his colleagues who intervened and disarmed him, Nyamweya would have killed the woman, according to reports. Eight spent cartridges were collected from the scene of the crime.
Reports indicate that Nyamweya had recently been transferred to Kabachi Police Post from Laare Police Station and on Saturday evening, he excused himself from work saying he was going home to pick a jacket.
He then went to Laare, 20 kilometers away from his duty station to meet his girlfriend and an argument ensued leading to the shooting incident.
"The officer said he would come back. He had his full uniform and a gun when he traveled to Laare," an officer told Daily Nation.
The woman was rushed to Meru Level Five Hospital in critical condition before she was referred to KNH. Area Deputy County Commissioner Charles Langat confirmed the incident but declined to give more details.
The victim’s father said he was aware the officer was dating his daughter but their relationship became stormy after Nyamweya was transferred.
"She said the man had been beating her and was unhappy in the relationship. I talked to them and they reconciled. The two had visited my home and I had agreed to their relationship. I didn't expect it to result in this. I want justice for my daughter," he said.
