Kenyan Man Who Chopped Off Wife's Hands Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison
A Kenyan man who chopped off his wife's hands five years ago has been slapped with a 30-year prison sentence.
Stephen Ngila was handed the sentence by Senior Resident Magistrate Brenda Bartoo of Machakos law courts on Tuesday after he was found guilty of the offense.
He was charged with attempted murder after he brutally attacked his former wife, Jackline Mwende, on July 25th, 2016 at their home in Machakos with a machete.
In addition to losing both hands, Mwende suffered serious injuries on her head and back during the gruesome attack.
Mwende said Ngila attacked her for failing to bear him children despite several tests showing that he was the one who had reproductive health issues. He allegedly refused to undergo treatment recommended by doctors to correct the problem.
At the time of the attack, the two had been married for seven years and had no children.
Ngila has 14 days to appeal the ruling.
