Police Discover Sh27 Million Marijuana Farm in Naivasha, Arrest 14 Suspects

John Wanjohi Feb 13, 2021

Police have discovered an acre of bhang estimated to be worth Sh27 million in Naivasha, Nakuru County following a tip-off from members of the public.

The marijuana farm was discovered during a security operation conducted by a multi-agency team drawn from the Anti-Narcotics Unit and the Administration Police.

In a statement on Friday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said 14 suspects were found weeding the bhang planted at the expansive Kedong Ranch.

They were arrested and detained pending further investigations and arraignment in court next week.

This week, police conducted similar operations in Nyeri and Machakos, where large fields of bhang were discovered and destroyed.

It is illegal to use and sell bhang in Kenya, with offenders risking heavy fines and long prison sentences once convicted.

The Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Control Act stipulates that where an accused person satisfies the court that the cannabis was intended solely for his use, the individual will be subjected to imprisonment for 10 years and 20 years in any other case.
