Police Discover Sh27 Million Marijuana Farm in Naivasha, Arrest 14 Suspects

Police have discovered an acre of bhang estimated to be worth Sh27 million in Naivasha, Nakuru County following a tip-off from members of the public.

The marijuana farm was discovered during a security operation conducted by a multi-agency team drawn from the Anti-Narcotics Unit and the Administration Police.

In a statement on Friday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said 14 suspects were found weeding the bhang planted at the expansive Kedong Ranch.

They were arrested and detained pending further investigations and arraignment in court next week.

This week, police conducted similar operations in Nyeri and Machakos, where large fields of bhang were discovered and destroyed.

It is illegal to use and sell bhang in Kenya, with offenders risking heavy fines and long prison sentences once convicted.

The Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Control Act stipulates that where an accused person satisfies the court that the cannabis was intended solely for his use, the individual will be subjected to imprisonment for 10 years and 20 years in any other case.

Sh.27M... wonder how many ways it would have been split after David Ndii takes his 30% cut.
It piqued my curiosity when the economist kept on advocating for Marijuana legalization, and backing his position with his admission of smocking it,and still apparently doing well in his academic pursuit.
We need full investigation here, and nip the problem in the bud before Ndii flees with millions to Cayman Islands, leaving this poor farm hands to rot in prison.

Also Raila's son and some MPs are campaigning hard for hang legalizing. They will know something about the plantations

Bhangi should be made legal in kenya in a controlled form and end its decrimination as it is happening in other countries by and large. This will end the perrenial fight btwn govt and citizens as well as inject some wealth into the ailing economy. It will be a form of self employment to many.Instead of wheelbarrow s donated by Mr rootall and his hustler narrative he should set an example by creating a cannabis processing factory to absorb this"hustlers" in the back door cannabis business and i will give him my vote .

@maxiley, Ndii might be on to something. The two early adopters, CO and WA, of legal Mary Jane are collecting loads of cash in tax revenue. People will smoke it whether the government condones it or not, putting people in jail for 10 or 20 years is expensive and they won't leave jail with useful skills other than being a burden, alcohol is even more destructive - collisions, broken families etc- alcohol is widely used in the Mt. Kenya region I know nothing of the other areas but it can't be great, no real research has been done on the effects of MJ - it was made illegal for fairly racist reasons here in the States. https://drugpolicy.org/blog/how-did-marijuana-become-illegal-first-place
Must we always follow white jurisprudence which looks at people like you and me with a jaundiced eye?

@ Mundumugo,Its all hypocritical. Its all about money. If Ndii cared like I said in my last post on this matter, there are many drug addicts mentally and physically suffering. Why because someone is making a KILLING from their addiction. To each his own-morally,as to whether its bad or not, iwill let science shape my conscience. And of course I sympathize with those who are afflicted by drug addiction.
One thing we can agree on is Marijuana like alcohol has mind altering substances that clause, affect our senses, and judgement. As such, society should control them.Again as to being harmful ,I will let science, and medical community give us the right answer.
Finally, lets separate morals from science when tackling medical matters, and or moral issues.Iam sure just about all of us have heard the cliche-I dont want my government legislating my morals.
Yes, its all about money.Think of how much money Kenya Breweries pump in to the economy despite people getting drunk,or ruining their livers.
My opinion is legalize it,and have people -smoke it responsibly, and tax it.But before we do that, lets take care of the problems other legal mind benders are causing.Unlike prostitution where the government says its illegal, but we know how rampant prostitution is. Obviously with prostitution nothing is ingested,so we cannot measure the bodily harm like marijuana,or busaa. Like you said, more research is needed.
