God Will Determine the Outcome, Ruto Says on 2027 Election

President William Ruto on Thursday urged Kenyans to remain calm ahead of the 2027 General Election, saying the country would maintain a peaceful and credible democratic process.

Speaking at two separate events, Ruto called for unity and restraint as political activity intensifies across the country. At a public gathering earlier in the day, he said the outcome of the election would ultimately be determined by God. He added that he would accept the result, whether or not he secures a second term.

Later, during the National Prayer Breakfast, the President warned against attempts to divide the country along political or ethnic lines. He said such efforts would not succeed and described Kenya as a resilient nation capable of overcoming political differences while continuing to make progress. He also appealed for calm among leaders and the public, saying: “Tulizeni boli… this country is okay.”

The National Prayer Breakfast, hosted this year by the Senate under its rotational arrangement with the National Assembly, focused on the theme of forgiveness and reconciliation. Senate Speaker Amason Kingi said the theme reflected the current political climate and the need for dialogue and restraint as the country approaches another election period.

The event brought together leaders from the Executive, Parliament, the judiciary, and the private sector. It served as a platform for discussions on national unity and peaceful coexistence.

Ruto also spoke about his pride in Kenya, saying he would choose to be born Kenyan again if given the opportunity. He pointed to the country’s progress over the past three years as evidence of God’s favour and said Kenyans had many reasons to be thankful.

The President’s remarks come amid growing political debate over alliances, possible candidates, and the direction of the country ahead of the 2027 polls. His repeated calls for calm and unity reflected an effort to reassure the public and reduce political tensions as preparations for the election continue.

Ruto’s emphasis on faith and national identity combined religious messaging with calls for confidence in Kenya’s democratic institutions. As the election approaches, political leaders and citizens are expected to play a key role in maintaining peaceful engagement and preventing polarisation.
