Kenya Offers 5,000 Online Scholarships Through New Diaspora Partnership

Kenya’s State Department for Diaspora Affairs has partnered with the European Business University of Luxembourg (EBU) to offer 5,000 online scholarships to learners seeking to improve their academic and professional skills.

The scholarships cover a range of programmes, including business management diplomas and certificate courses, as well as technology training for young women. One of the flagship programmes is Robotics for Rookies, which is aimed at girls aged 11 to 18.

The robotics programme is being delivered in partnership with the Kenya Girl Guides Association and is designed to encourage girls to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Participants will receive practical exposure to robotics and related areas. 

Organisers have advised applicants to review the programme’s safeguards document before registering. The initiative also includes a Diploma in Business Management offered through the eTVET EUNI Training Institute. The programme is intended to provide practical skills in areas such as entrepreneurship and organisational leadership.

The combination of technology and business training is aimed at helping learners develop skills relevant to an evolving labour market, where digital knowledge and management capabilities are increasingly important. The State Department said the scholarships form part of its broader efforts to make use of the knowledge, skills and networks of Kenyans living abroad. 

The partnership with EBU also highlights the role of the Kenyan diaspora in supporting knowledge transfer and expanding access to education. EBU was founded by a Kenyan in Luxembourg, and the partnership provides a link between Kenyan learners and an institution established within the diaspora community. Such partnerships can also support stronger institutional connections between Kenya and its citizens abroad.

Applications for the scholarships are open until 1 September 2026. Eligible candidates have been encouraged to apply, with particular emphasis placed on girls interested in technology and individuals seeking to develop their qualifications in business and related fields.
