Kenyan-Born Man Dies of COVID-19 Complications in New Jersey
A 68-year-old Kenyan-born man has died from COVID-19 complications in the US.
Michael Wangondu Gichuhi, who lived and worked in New Jersey, succumbed to the virus last week at Morristown Medical Center, where he has been admitted in the ICU for more than one month.
The deceased worked at various agencies across Central New Jersey for about 20 years, serving the vulnerable and less fortunate.
Gichuhi, who hails from Othaya, Nyeri County, worked as a lecturer at the University of Nairobi (UoN) and National Agricultural Laboratories before moving to the US in 2000.
He was preparing to return to Kenya last November but could not travel due to COVID-19 restrictions. Gichuhi leaves behind a widow and nine children.
His family is making arrangements to repatriate his remains to Othaya, his desired final resting place. Family and friends are appealing for financial support from well-wishers to help airlift his body to Kenya for burial.
