Raila Tests Positive for COVID-19, Doctor Says He is Responding Well to Treatment
ODM party leader Raila Odinga has tested positive for COVID-19.
This was confirmed by his doctor David Oluoch-Olunya, who noted that he is responding positively to treatment at the Nairobi Hospital.
“Following my letter of the 10th of March 2021 we have confirmed that Rt. Hon. Odinga has SARS-2 COVID 19. We are continuing to monitor his progress,” the consultant neurosurgeon said in a statement on Thursday.
Odinga was admitted to the facility on Tuesday after complaining of general fatigue and body aches.
His elder brother Oburu Odinga told Citizen Digital that he was not exhibiting any signs of a respiratory illness.
The Health Ministry has warned of a third COVID-19 wave after a spike in daily cases in the country. On Thursday, the ministry reported 829 new cases from a sample size of 6,239 tested in the last 24 hours.
The country’s caseload jumped to 111,185 while the death toll rose by one to 1,899.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said a total of 91 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with 22 being on ventilator support, 60 on supplemental oxygen while nine are on observation.
28 other patients are on supplementary oxygen, with 26 of them in the general wards and two in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
