Miguna Miguna Comes to the Aid of Poor University Student
Kenyan-Canadian lawyer Miguna Miguna has come to the rescue of a needy University of Nairobi (UoN) student.
Through his law firm KMM Lawyers, Miguna has fully paid Esther Amimo Anyanzwa’s tuition fee as well as accommodation, books, food, and other basic needs.
Miguna was touched by the plight of Esther, who had been forced to do menial jobs such as laundry and house chores for other people to raise fees.
Esther was part of a two-member Kenyan team that won the UN Sustainable Development Global Awards during the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair 2019 in the United States.
In an interview last week, Esther narrated how her mother Ruth Owendi, a cook at Keriko Primary School in Lare, Nakuru County, was struggling to provide for her family of seven. Her father a former watchman, is ailing.
The girl used the Sh100,000 she won at the UN engineering fair to enroll for a Bachelor of Education course at the UoN in 2019.
“My annual school fees is KSh26,000 per year. So I have to get KSh18,000 to top up the Higher Education Loans Board’s relief of KSh8,000 per year,” she told The Star.
She also needed Sh3,500 for accommodation on-campus, food, laboratory manuals, printing paper, and other miscellaneous items.
Miguna, who was deported to Canada in 2018, said he will fund Esther’s university education to completion.
“Best of luck, Esther. Now, go and get your FIRST CLASS DEGREE,” Miguna tweeted.
