Gang Robs Chinese National of Sh5.2 Million in Nairobi
Police in Nairobi are pursuing a gang that robbed a Chinese national of Sh5.2 million on Thursday.
Shan Xiu Min, an accountant at a city company, was in the company of his driver when the incident happened at around 11:00 am at Bellevue area in South B.
The victim says that after branching off Mombasa Road into South B estate, about a kilometer from the highway, the driver stopped claiming to have been flagged down by police officers.
Shortly after they stopped, two men armed with knives approached the vehicle and dragged the Chinese out before driving off with the driver and the money.
The foreigner was reportedly heading to a bank in South B to deposit the cash to his company’s account. The money was in local currency.
Nairobi County Deputy Police Commander James Mugera said they are investigating the incident and believe the robbery was staged by people who knew about the money.
“We are investigating it, but it seems the said thieves knew about the money,” he said.
Mugera said the attack could be an inside job, and efforts to trace the driver are ongoing.
