Gang Robs Chinese National of Sh5.2 Million in Nairobi

Police in Nairobi are pursuing a gang that robbed a Chinese national of Sh5.2 million on Thursday.

Shan Xiu Min, an accountant at a city company, was in the company of his driver when the incident happened at around 11:00 am at Bellevue area in South B.

The victim says that after branching off Mombasa Road into South B estate, about a kilometer from the highway, the driver stopped claiming to have been flagged down by police officers.

Shortly after they stopped, two men armed with knives approached the vehicle and dragged the Chinese out before driving off with the driver and the money.

The foreigner was reportedly heading to a bank in South B to deposit the cash to his company’s account. The money was in local currency.

Nairobi County Deputy Police Commander James Mugera said they are investigating the incident and believe the robbery was staged by people who knew about the money.

“We are investigating it, but it seems the said thieves knew about the money,” he said.

Mugera said the attack could be an inside job, and efforts to trace the driver are ongoing.

Why do we have Chinese accountants in Kenya? Are we not mass producing accountants everyday?

Mugikuyu: We have Chinese accountants in Kenya because the contract that was signed with whoever had a clause stipulating Chinese workers in certain positions. The Chinese government puts stipulations in loans that end up benefiting them more than Kenya. For example, "we will give you a loan for this amount but you have to open your markets for our fish, textiles etc.". This kills our fishing and textile industries.

This is way to obvious!

Which police flagged the driver?

This was an inside job but the Chinese has no luck coz the Kenyan police/DCI will be demanding “facilitation money” to enable them so an investigation!

If at all any money will be retrieved, then, 50% of the recovered money will go to the cops.
