Ruto to Address Nation from Russia as State House Teases 6pm Broadcast

President William Ruto will deliver a recorded national address at 6 pm on Wednesday, State House has announced.
State House Press Secretary Emmanuel Talam issued a media alert confirming the President will make a "major announcement," though he did not disclose the specific subject of the broadcast. The address will stream simultaneously across Ruto's official social media platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, X, Instagram, and TikTok.
The timing of the broadcast comes while President Ruto is currently in Moscow for the Third Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum. State House noted his agenda in Russia focuses on expanding markets for Kenyan tea, coffee, cut flowers, and fresh produce, alongside attracting foreign direct investment in energy, manufacturing, and technology.
However, a 27-second promotional video released by State House strongly suggests the announcement may center on a major domestic sports development.
The teaser clip features sweeping shots of red and green seating tiers and concludes with President Ruto's shoe resting on a football on a pitch. The video overlays the broadcast time alongside the official State House emblem.
The footage appears to show the 60,000-seater Talanta Stadium. A National Assembly committee recently inspected the facility, reporting it is 94 percent complete with a scheduled handover date of December 31.
The venue carries significant political weight. Ruto previously pledged to rename Talanta Stadium the Raila Odinga International Stadium in honour of the former Prime Minister, who passed away on October 15 last year.
The potential stadium naming coincides with deepening political ties between Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza coalition and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ahead of the 2027 general election. In January, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) National Executive Committee authorised Ruto to begin formal coalition talks with ODM, leading to joint committees tasked with drafting a shared manifesto.
During a visit to Kisumu on September 13, Ruto described UDA and ODM as "collaborators" and committed to preserving Odinga’s legacy.
