Raila Pledges to Reduce Food Prices if Elected President

John Wanjohi Jun 12, 2022

Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition party presidential candidate Raila Odinga has pledged to lower the prices of food and other essential commodities if elected president in the August 9th elections.

Odinga, who is giving his fifth stab at the presidency, said his administration will prioritize lowering the cost of living by reducing the prices of flour, cooking oil, and fuel.

“Flour prices will go down, even cooking oil and paraffin, we must bring it down. We have resolved to make the cost of living bearable to Kenyans. People have suffered enough,” Raila said during a campaign rally in Masinga, Machakos County on Sunday.

He further pointed out that his proposed social protection program where families with no income will receive a monthly stipend of Sh6,000 each will improve their living standards, citing countries such as the US, Brazil, Namibia, and Egypt.

“Cases of children going without food will be unheard of again. Under the social protection program, these families will get money from the government. It has worked well in America, Europe, Brazil, India, Egypt and even Namibia,” said Odinga.

Raila was accompanied by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and other regional leaders including Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu and her Makueni counterpart Prof. Kivutha Kibwana.
