Ruto: Nobody Could Have Taken the Kind of Humiliation President Uhuru Subjected Me to

Deputy President William Ruto has weighed in on his feud with President Kenyatta, saying that he regrets the current state of their relationship.

Ruto, who is eyeing the presidency in the August 9th general elections, appeared to blame Kenyatta for their strained relationship which has seen the two former allies engage in public spats in the past few years.

Speaking during a Town Hall session hosted by KTN News on Thursday night, the deputy president said Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua would not endure the kind of humiliation he has been subjected to by President Kenyatta.

“It is really unfortunate, and I regret the rivalry has gone this way…I have been a very patient person, the kind of humiliation that I have been subjected to by my boss nobody could have taken it. If it was for example Raila or Martha Karua they would have done drastic things already,” Ruto said.

Similarly, Ruto dismissed claims that he has disrespected and insulted Kenyatta, saying that he has tried his best to restrain himself from responding to the insults directed at him by the president.

“The record is going to bear me witness, I have resisted as much as I could to respond to my boss, many people say that William Ruto has insulted Uhuru Kenyatta, I have never insulted Uhuru Kenyatta,” he said.

He added that he has had talks with Kenyatta over the alleged insults and the president admitted that there is no evidence showing he had ever done such a thing. Ruto further claimed that President Kenyatta turned down a request from the bishops to reconcile them. 

“In fact, I have heard a discussion with him and have asked him directly that I hear there is this story that I have insulted you, can you produce one clip either from intelligence, or whether it was at night…or a private meeting where I said something against you, and he said it is not there…because I am a very careful person,” he added.
