South African Opposition Leader Julius Malema Urges Raila to Concede Defeat
South Africa opposition party leader Julius Malema has urged Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga to concede defeat after losing the August 9th election to William Ruto.
Malema, who is the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters party, called upon Odinga to concede to avoid going down in history as one who was desperate for power.
“We call on Mr. Raila Odinga to accept the election’s outcome, and not form part of a tradition of causing instability, and uncertainty in African governance,” said Malema.
He also congratulated president-elect Ruto and commended Kenya for conducting peaceful and democratic elections.
“This morning, I spoke to President-elect William Ruto and congratulated him for winning the democratic elections in Kenya,” Malema added.
Ruto was declared the winner of the August 9th presidential election after garnering 7,176,141 votes (50.49 percent of the total votes), defeating his main competitor Raila Odinga by 233,211 votes.
Odinga, who secured 6,942,930 votes (48.85 percent), has filed a petition at the Supreme Court seeking to have nullification of Ruto’s victory and a fresh presidential election held in strict conformity with the constitution and election laws.
