Kenyan Journalist Larry Madowo Lands a New Role at CNN
Kenyan journalist Larry Madowo is excited after landing a new role at CNN.
Madowo, who joined the giant American media house in May 2021 as its Nairobi-based correspondent before being promoted to an international correspondent, will now host the 'African Voices Changemakers', a show mainly focusing on newsmakers across the continent.
The show also hosts individuals who find ways to impact their communities and make cultural contributions.
Since joining the international network in 2021, he has covered a wide range of news stories around the globe, including flooding in Nigeria, and coronavirus vaccine inequality.
"He has also broadcasted from Expo 2020 in Dubai and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, reported from the World Economic Forum in Davos and anchored news shows from Atlanta," CNN said in a statement on its website.
Through social media on Tuesday, Madowo said the opportunity is surreal as he was first featured on the show in 2017 speaking about his work as a Kenyan journalist. His first show will air on February 25.
"Some personal professional news: my role at CNN is expanding. I’m the new host of African Voices Changemakers. I was featured on the show in 2017 so it’s surreal to be taking over Tell me your stories," he tweeted. "This is a full circle moment for me."
Madowo, who started his journalism career at Kenya Television Network (KTN) at the age of 20, previously worked for NTV Kenya, CNBC Africa, and BBC.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Communication from Daystar University and a master’s in Business and Economics Journalism from Columbia University in New York.
