President Ruto has directed the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs to open an embassy in Budapest, Hungary.

Ruto made the directive following his meeting with the Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament Dr. László Kövér, at State House, Nairobi, on Tuesday.

The president said the process should begin immediately and the embassy should be up in a year or two in a bid to escalate the relations between Kenya and Hungary.

Ruto expressed Kenya’s gratitude to the Hungarian government for the Sh6.2 billion support that will go into the setting up of the Dedan Kimathi Comprehensive Cancer Management in Nyeri.

The funds will also go towards the establishment of the Kabonyo Regional Service and Training Centre of Excellence and the rehabilitation of the Ahero Irrigation Scheme in Kisumu County.

"The world is at a crossroads: Do we continue with fossil fuels and burn the globe or do we go the clean energy route and save the world," said Ruto.

On his part, Dr. Kövér hailed the parliaments of the two countries for their role in strengthening the relations between Kenya and Hungary.

The Hungarian Speaker also reiterated his country’s commitment to mitigating the effects of climate change.

Kenya mainly exports cut flowers, fruits, vegetables, tobacco, and fish to Hungary. There are more opportunities in meat, clothing, dairy, and pharmaceutical products.
