Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has embarked on a strategic campaign to garner support from the Mount Kenya region.

Kalonzo showcases a concerted effort to unite the Kikuyu and Akamba communities. This move transcends mere political manoeuvring as Kalonzo aims to foster a society characterized by unity and peace, bridging historical divisions that have impeded progress. On Thursday, Kalonzo convened with the Kikuyu council of elders at their Ruaka offices where he stressed the importance of embracing inclusivity within the GEMA framework (Gikuyu, Embu, Meru, Akamba).

His primary objective was to bridge the historical gap between the Kikuyu and Kamba communities, emphasizing that there would be no distinction between these communities under his leadership. Addressing the Kikuyu elders, Kalonzo urged them to embrace his bid for unity, stressing the significance of standing together during these uncertain political times. He assured them of his dedication to their cause, promising continued communication and collaboration with community leaders throughout the region.

Echoing Kalonzo's sentiments, the National Chairman of the Kikuyu council Wachira Kiago commended his efforts in promoting unity and reconciliation. Kiago emphasised the importance of ongoing discussions in fostering growth and cooperation within the area. Kathiani MP Robert Mbui highlighted that this meeting should not be viewed solely through a political lens but rather as a means to foster unity and peace among all Mount Kenya communities.

Matungulu MP Stephen Mule affirmed the Kamba community's readiness to support unity efforts. Former Women Representative Rechel Shebesh praised Kalonzo for his continuous support for the community, emphasizing their preparedness to collaborate and assist him in his endeavours. However, despite Kalonzo's efforts, obstacles loom within his political faction in Azimio. Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua has raised doubts about Kalonzo's suitability as a presidential candidate, advising him to focus on demonstrating his abilities to the electorate.
