Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote has revealed why he decided to abandon plans to expand his vast business empire to Kenya.
The Nigerian, who spoke to renowned Kenyan media personality Jeff Koinange, said that some individuals - who he declined to name - but who described as “more corrupt than Nigerians" discouraged him from investing in the country.
Sharing his private conversation with the billionaire on his breakfast show on Hot 96fm, Koinange said that his chat with Dangote happened when he attended the tycoon’s daughter’s wedding in Nigeria last month.
“I asked him, ‘Al Hajj when are you coming back to Kenya?’ and he said ‘Jeff, there are people in that place (Kenya) who put greed and personal interest ahead of national interest. I didn’t think Kenya would be more corrupt that Nigeria.'” Koinange narrated on air.
Dangote, who Forbes valued at $13.5 billion (Sh1.5 trillion), was part of the delegation of 50 high-net-worth Nigerian businessmen who accompanied the country’s then-President Goodluck Jonathan to Kenya in 2013.
Afterwards, Dangote revealed plans of putting up a Sh100 billion cement factory in Kenya, but that has not happened to date.
Koinange is a personal friend of Dangote, a relationship that was developed when the award winning journalist worked in Nigeria for Cable News Network (CNN).

Koinange ought to have enquired from Dangote how he got his billions. But first he,Koinange should tell us if he has investigated how his expired grandfather, acquired his vast land.I also hope he also asked his expired cousin,Karuga how Goldenberg scandal happened.I also hope he has tales to tell Kenyans about 5000000 acres owned by his uncle,Kamau Muigai a.k.a,Kenyatta.
Can he tell us how he got his money if it is not through corruption? Pot Calling the Kettle Black.
Whom is he protecting? If Dangote has evidence,he should shame these crooks.Unless they bought his silence.

Once again, we are shooting the messenger instead of dealing with the issue at hand...the way these guys who are tearing Jeff down are talking is like they have been paid to do so....if their intention is to downplay the message...that corruption is killing our nation slowly, and we ought to be demanding action against these economic saboteurs...I freely advice you, you may confuse us Kenyans for a period of time...but we are now wide awake...we shall overcome some day...we need Miguna back to sweep all this dirt out of Kenya.
Who are you referring if "WE"?I just challenged Jeff because he cannot talk of corruption while he is a beneficiary of it.There is no need pf talkiing about today's corruption while praising yesterday's.I for one believes that all corruption involving public funds shuld be punished by death. And that one day i will volunteer without pay to shoot all looters.
Amazingly, they are corrupt on both sides of the Aisle. The current fights for control of the judiciary, executive and legislative has to do with who can get the best tenders. No interest in the common mwananchi period.
