Microsoft has joined forces with M-Pesa Africa to offer its support to the Capability Development Academy.
M-Pesa Africa recently announced its intentions to facilitate capacity development and digitization for MSMEs by providing access to the Microsoft Community Platform and SME Skilling Programs. Utilizing the Microsoft Community Platform and Global Training initiatives, M-Pesa Africa aims to educate MSMEs in creating solid business structures, effectively managing their finances, and enhancing their customer service. Being one of the most recommended and reliable fintech and payment services in Africa, M-Pesa serves over 60 million customers across eight nations, as well as extending a comprehensive business solutions platform to over 900,000 businesses.
To fully leverage Africa's potential, bridging the expanding skills gap is paramount. Small and Medium Enterprises hold a critical role in contributing to the region's broad-based socio-economic advancement, serving as the driving force of national economies. As observed in developing nations, SMEs account for 40 per cent of GDP and aid in driving at least 90 per cent of new job opportunities.
Despite having the highest rate of entrepreneurship in the world, SMEs often fail within the first five years. Key obstacles they face include limited access to business tools, financing, and digital skills. Microsoft, through its Africa Transformation Office, aims to address these challenges by providing MSMEs with the necessary tools to expand their market access and contribute to overall economic growth. The company's goal is to digitally empower 10 million African SMEs by offering relevant business applications and readily available skilling content.
