Kenya did not make it into the top 20 fastest-growing economies in Africa Outlook 2024 ranking by Economic Intelligence (EIU), despite a projected GDP growth of 5.3%.
In contrast, Tanzania and Uganda, along with Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Ethiopia, were included in the list. The EIU forecasts that the presence of these East African countries would be crucial in fostering Africa's progress. However, Kenya is highlighted as a nation that would have a substantial impact in reshaping the continent. The report states that East Africa will be the most vibrant region of the continent in terms of economic advancement.
The economies of East Africa will be strongly influenced by various industries such as travel, tourism, hospitality, transport, logistics, finance, and telecommunications. Moreover, all African nations except Sudan and Equatorial Guinea are predicted to register growth. The EIU report forecasts Africa to be the second-fastest-growing region globally in 2024, with Asia leading the way due to the contributions of China and India.
Furthermore, several African nations, such as Senegal, Mauritania, Libya, Ivory Coast, Benin, Mozambique, and Togo, are projected to be among the top 20 economies with the highest growth rate in 2024. Additionally, countries like Guyana, Macay, Anguilla, Fiji, Cambodia, Samoa, Bangladesh, and Maldives are also included in this list. The remarkable success of African countries can be attributed to their economies that heavily rely on natural resources and their significant role as exporters of commodities.
Africa is poised to gain from fierce competition and lucrative prices for its hydrocarbons, mining industry products, and agricultural goods. The EIU also emphasizes that Africa's energy sector initiatives, as well as minerals and metals essential for global energy transition and digital transformation, will continue to attract significant investment in the coming years.
