Kenyan-Born Harvard Professor Calestous Juma Dies in the US

Kenyan-born Professor Calestous Juma has passed on.Juma passed away in Boston, United States following a battle with cancer.

In a statement on Twitter, Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed confirmed the passing of the scholar and described him as a role model.

“I have received the news of the passing on of my friend, compatriot and a role model Professor Calestous Juma, with a deep sense of great personal loss. May his soul rest in eternal peace.” wrote CS Amina.

Until his demise, Prof Calestous Juma was a lecturer of the Practice of International Development and Faculty Chair of the Innovation for Economic Development Executive Program at Harvard Kennedy School.

The 64-year-old was an internationally recognized authority in the field of science and technology to sustainable development worldwide.

Prof Juma was named in the list of 100 most influential Africans in 2012, 2013 and 2014 by the New African magazine.
