The government is set to begin distributing Huduma Namba cards to Kenyans in the diaspora.
The Kenyan Consulate in Los Angeles in a notice on Thursday said Kenyans abroad will collect their cards in the respective missions where they registered.
“The Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government has advised that Kenyans in Diaspora will collect their Huduma Cards in respective Missions of their registration,” the consulate noted.
Those who wish to collect their cards in a different mission can choose their convenient mission through the Huduma Namba Diaspora Portal, which is currently under development.
“Please note that the portal is currently being developed and will be informed once it is up and running,” the statement added.
Kenyans in the diaspora have been asked to call toll-free number +245 0800 221111 for further information or queries regarding Huduma Namba cards.
“Further, while in Kenya, one can choose a preferred collection point using the portal after which a link will be given through SMS, text or simply dial the toll-free number for assistance.”
More than two million Huduma Namba cards have been released but only 10 percent of them have been collected since the mass distribution started in February.
At least 37 million Kenyans, including 20 million adults and 17 million minors, registered for Huduma Namba during the first phase of the exercise in 2019.
Last year, the government said the current national identity cards will be phased out by December 2021, and replaced by Huduma Cards. Huduma Namba is described as the single source of personal identification for Kenyans, and persons resident in Kenya.

Rigging of elections in 2022 seems to be going according to plan.
You are phasing out the current ID by Dec 2021, what happens to thousands of diasporans who never got the oppprtunity to register for this huduma namba? The previously time allotted for registrations abroad in 2019 was too short and quickly elapsed for many residing in the United States. When should we register for this card?
